As vintage car and motorcycle fans and collectors we have always loved browsing the classifieds of our favorite magazines and newspapers looking for unexpected treasures and lost classics. But such pleasures are becoming harder to find.
So here you have it, the Octagon 'classifieds' section that hopefully will provide opportunities for sellers and buyers and, if we are lucky, even bring back some of the fun of browsing the 'old' classifieds.

Block, crank, pistons, rods I Rescued these from Abingdon Motors in Vancouver back in the ’80s and they have been in my garage ever since. I’m moving and I’m never going to do anything with them. Condition is unknown – dirty, rust, spider webs, etc. I believe the block and crank are basically sound. Couldn’t find the head at the time. Free but you have to pick them up.
Project underway. straight body, typical rust but not severe. Comes with rear suspension replacement parts.
All interior parts are dry stored, wood work is all there but mostly deteriorated due to years of sun exposure.
It was running fine about 10 years ago. Comes with original bonnet and a second louvered bonnet. All chrome & fittings in good shape. It has a bit of history, I’m the second owner. Get in touch for more photos and info.
This has been my daily driver for the past two years, but looking to go back to a motorcycle. Not in a rush to sell and hope to find the next owner of the B-GT to carry on.
Previous owner did a major restoration approx 15yrs ago. Re-did undercoating, paint and a lot of the major work (have his photos). Since I have owner her, I’ve done:
– full brakes, front & back
– replace full rear suspension,
– rebuilt the carbs (but still need some fine-tuning)
– replaced oil cooler lines
– replaced valve cover & gaskets (but still has a stubborn minor leak, as tense LBC’s do).
– replaced steering wheel and shift knob with walnut ones
– replaced 90’s radio with era-correct “Chrome London” refurbished Blauplunkt
– replaced radiator hoses
– electric ignition
– replaced ignition on steering column (new keys)
– replaced door and trunk lock cylinders.
– replaced starter engine
– doing oil change approx every 6 months to keep her fresh
– replaced headlights with LED
– replaced side mirrors
– added interior speakers
– sill rockers paint
Still some things to do if looking for a tinker car:
– had a hit-and-run on the front bonnet, so a bit of a dent (4”) in hood to fix.
– clutch flywheel has some wear in the teeth so could be replaced but works fine.
– is a 4 speed w/o 1st synchro and no o/d, so this could be upgraded if desired
– paint is pretty good for a daily driver, but would want to be redone if want to take to shows and meets.
Interior is in great condition. Fabric seats, door vinyl is all intact, headliner is clean, dash is great. All controls work. Heater and defrost work.
I am the original owner of this well maintained classic car. I regret having to sell this beauty but I am no longer able to drive.
It has 70,000 original miles. 4 speed transmission, with electric overdrive.
Fully restored MGB, rebuilt engine, drive-train, brakes etc. New leather interior, top, tires mounted on mini-lite wheels, beautiful vehicle, must go, no room for storage, we are an orchard in Summerland.
Authentic, published in 1948, issue #2, MG TC, Instruction Manual. AKD 856 Service Parts List. Not sure of exact date of publishing of this one, although it is authentic. Very hard to find, authentic, published in 1949, issue #1, MG TB and TC Special Tuning manual and reproduction of Preliminary Instruction booklet. This is the full set to compliment your MG TC. The 1948 and 1949 booklets I have are very hard to find and a set can take some time to assemble. All are complete and in excellent shape for their age.
We are looking for a nice little MGB for the wonderful roads of Salt Spring Island.
No longer will your pride and joy be stuck in your garage or under constant threat from menacing SUVs on city streets. It will be set free on uncivilized country roads that are policed only by the local deer population and the supervision of a solo pedestrian stop light.
We are open to most anything in terms of years, but mostly we are keen on a solid body that isn’t going to rot away under us.
Our local mechanic is well-versed in the care of MGs, and while he is a great guy and we enjoy an occasional visit with him, we are not looking to make him part of our extended family.
So there you have it. Your MG will be loved and well-taken care of, and can stretch its legs on the closest thing to old English country roads that still exist within 1000 kilometers of Vancouver.
Authentic, published in 1948, issue #2, MG TC, Instruction Manual. AKD 856 Service Parts List. Not sure date of publishing of this one although it is authentic. Likely a 1950’s copy. Very hard to find, authentic, published in 1949, issue #1, MG TB and TC Special Tuning manual and reproduction of Preliminary Instruction booklet. This is the full set to compliment your MG TC. There are many reprints out there. The 1948 and 1949 booklets I have are very hard to find and a set can take some time to assemble. All are complete and in very good shape for there age.
SI’ve owned this car since 1984 and it’s always been garaged and used only seasonally. 50090 miles since restoration and in excellent running condition. Modifications include the Ford Sierra T9 5 speed all-synchro gearbox conversion, stainless steel exhaust, electronic ignition, new brake and clutch reservoirs, new starter and battery, minilite alloy wheels and Sony radio with bluetooth and USB. The hood is in very good condition and there is a new after-market tonneau. Extras include the original MGB steering wheel (like new), jack, tonneau and chrome bumper over-riders. The original factory workshop manual, complete with oily fingerprints, comes with the car. I’m reluctantly selling because I’m downsizing and moving to Vancouver Island (where I have a Miata and my wife doesn’t understand why I need two sports cars..!!).
original to my family
Haven’t tried to jump it, probably needs a good tune up before starting as it’s sat for 2 years.
Hood is also stuck unfortunately.
Soft top replaced 3 years ago – hardly used
Stored for last 2 years, hasn’t been driven since then
Was my daily drive 5-6 years ago.
Comes with both tonneau covers
Antenna needs replacing as well and there is a scratch on driver side front.
